**Hyderabad, January 2, 2025** – The Telangana High Court heard several significant cases on Thursday, adjourning some while issuing rulings on others. A key development involved the ongoing investigation into the alleged torture of Dalit and backward class youngsters in Nerella in 2017. Additional Advocate General Mohammed Imran Khan requested a two-week extension to submit a report on the investigation’s status to the court. The hearing was adjourned until February 4th.
Separately, the court dismissed an appeal by Spectrum Power General Limited challenging a lower court’s denial of insurance payment for business interruption losses. The High Court upheld the lower court’s decision, stating it had correctly interpreted the insurance policy.
In another matter, the government informed the court of a final notification fixing the Full Tank Level (FTL) for 57 more water bodies in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) jurisdiction, adding to the 708 lakes already designated. The government also reported substantial progress on fixing FTLs for remaining water bodies and promised to provide a further update by February 4th. This announcement is related to a suo moto writ petition concerning encroachments within FTLs in the HMDA area.
