Thu Jan 02 19:03:14 UTC 2025: ## Gambhir’s Coaching Future Hangs in the Balance After String of Indian Team Losses
**New Delhi** – The future of Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir is uncertain following a series of disappointing defeats. According to sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gambhir has approximately 66 days to turn the team’s fortunes around before facing potential dismissal.
The pressure mounts after India’s recent failures, including a loss of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade under Gambhir’s tenure, a first-ever ODI series defeat to Sri Lanka in 27 years, and a clean sweep at home by New Zealand. Concerns have also been raised about Gambhir’s frequent experimentation with the playing eleven, reportedly creating insecurity amongst the players.
While the BCCI is reportedly hesitant to make an immediate decision, Gambhir’s position will be critically evaluated after an upcoming test match against Australia and, more significantly, the Champions Trophy, starting February 19th. Should the team’s performance fail to improve by the end of the Champions Trophy on March 9th, Gambhir’s role as head coach could be terminated. All Indian matches will be played in Dubai under a hybrid model.
This news comes alongside the announcement of the Khel Ratna Awards, with Manu Bhaker amongst four athletes receiving the prestigious honour. Thirty-two other players will receive the Arjuna Award.
