Fri Jan 03 13:50:40 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh to Develop Seven New Airports, Aviation University
**Vijayawada, January 3, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced plans to significantly expand the state’s air travel infrastructure. In a review meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, the Chief Minister directed officials to prioritize the development of seven new airports and the establishment of an aviation university and training center.
The new airports are planned for Kuppam, Dagadarthi, Srikakulam, Tadepalligudem, Nagarjuna Sagar, Tuni-Annavaram, and Ongole. The Bhogapuram airport project will also be fast-tracked. This expansion is driven by the rapidly increasing demand for air travel within the state.
While the Airports Authority of India (AAI) manages existing airports in Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Kadapa, Rajahmundry, and Gannavaram (Vijayawada), and the state government operates the Kurnool airport, the new airports are intended to enhance connectivity to underserved regions.
Several feasibility reports are complete or underway. Kuppam airport’s construction is planned in two phases, requiring airspace adjustments due to its proximity to Bengaluru’s airports. Srikakulam airport’s feasibility study is finished, and land acquisition is in progress. Dagadarthi requires additional land acquisition, while the Nagarjuna Sagar airport needs forest clearance. The Tadepalligudem airport’s feasibility is being assessed, considering its proximity to existing airports. The Chief Minister also suggested exploring the possibility of an airport in Tadipatri.
The initiative represents a significant investment in Andhra Pradesh’s infrastructure and aims to boost economic growth and tourism by improving air connectivity throughout the state.
