**MAYILADUTHURAI, Tamil Nadu, January 3, 2025** – Sirkazhi police in Tamil Nadu conducted a successful anti-smuggling operation early Friday morning, seizing 1,200 bottles of liquor smuggled from Karaikal. The liquor was discovered during a routine vehicle check near the Vaitheeswaran Koil railway gate.
A car carrying the contraband was stopped after its driver gave conflicting answers to police questioning. A subsequent search revealed the 1,200 bottles, each containing 180ml of liquor. The driver, identified as Vicky alias Vignesh from Injikudi near Peralam, was arrested and the car, which had a tampered registration plate, was confiscated.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Mayiladuthurai District Superintendent of Police Stalin and Prohibition and Enforcement Deputy Superintendent Rajendran. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts to combat liquor smuggling in the region.
