Fri Jan 03 11:18:43 UTC 2025: ## Bangladesh Hotels Add Beef to Menus After Protests
**DHAKA, BANGLADESH** – Two Dhaka hotels have added beef dishes to their menus following protests by a Muslim consumer rights group. The group, the Bangladesh Muslim Consumer Rights Council, staged a demonstration outside the New Rajdhani Hotel and Raj Hotel in Gulshan, alleging that the hotels’ refusal to serve beef violated the dietary rights of the Muslim majority.
Protestors claimed that the hotels’ actions were influenced by India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and represented an attempt to impose Hindu values on Bangladesh. They threatened a nationwide boycott of any establishment that did not serve beef, stating that the absence of beef dishes would be seen as evidence of support for Hindutva and India.
Following the demonstration, both hotels quickly revised their menus to include beef options. The protests come amid a backdrop of ongoing social and political unrest in Bangladesh.
