**New Orleans, LA** – A horrific incident on New Year’s Day in New Orleans’ French Quarter left at least 15 people dead after a pick-up truck plowed into a crowd. Among the victims are several young people with bright futures, highlighting the devastating impact of the tragedy.

Authorities are still confirming identities and conducting post-mortem examinations, but the families of several victims have released their names and shared heartbreaking tributes.

One victim, Martin Tiger Bech, 20s, was a former Princeton University football player. Princeton’s football coach, Bob Surace, described Bech as “a ferocious competitor” and “a beloved teammate.” His brother shared a moving tribute on social media.

Another victim, 18-year-old Nikyra Dedeaux, was an aspiring nurse who was just weeks away from starting her training. Her mother, Melissa Dedeaux, a nurse herself, expressed her grief on social media and to local media. Friends described Nikyra as joyful and kind.

The tragedy also claimed the life of 37-year-old Kareem Hunter, a store manager and father of two. His cousin described him as “full of life,” while his sister spoke of his loving family and competitive spirit. His father shared a message of faith and grief.

Also among the deceased were 21-year-old Hubert Perez, a University of Alabama student, and 27-year-old Kimberly Usher Fall, a mother of a four-year-old who worked at a deli and was described as dedicated and kind by her employer. A 25-year-old audio-visual technician was also identified as a victim.

While authorities investigate the incident, President Biden stated that no connection to the attack has been established. The investigation is ongoing. The incident occurred amidst a change in weather patterns that is set to bring heavy snow and freezing temperatures to the region in the coming days.
