Thu Jan 02 09:41:34 UTC 2025: ## Uttar Pradesh Gears Up for Maha Kumbh Mela with Massive Infrastructure Upgrade

**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh:** With the Maha Kumbh Mela, the world’s largest religious gathering, commencing on January 13th, the Uttar Pradesh government has completed a massive infrastructure project worth ₹400 crore to ensure a smooth and power-abundant experience for the expected 40 crore devotees.

The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) has installed 182 km of high-tension and 1,405 km of low-tension power lines to guarantee a 24-hour electricity supply throughout the 45-day festival. Over 40,000 rechargeable bulbs will illuminate the fairgrounds, supplementing standard LED lighting, with a particular focus on the 4.5 lakh electrical connections for temporary camps. The ₹2.7 crore cost of these rechargeable bulbs will be absorbed within the existing Electricity Department budget for the Maha Kumbh.

Beyond power, significant infrastructural improvements have been made, including the renovation of 92 roads, construction of 30 bridges, and installation of 800 multilingual signages. Advanced security measures will be in place, featuring 2,700 AI-enabled CCTV cameras, facial recognition technology at entry points, and for the first time, underwater drones for surveillance at the Triveni Sangam. Aerial surveillance will also be conducted using drones.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, held at Prayagraj (along with Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik on a rotating basis), is expected to draw millions of pilgrims for the sacred cleansing bath at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers. The festival will conclude on February 26th.
