Thu Jan 02 12:44:28 UTC 2025: ## 40 PMK Cadre Arrested in Salem for Unauthorized Protest
**Salem, January 2, 2025** – Forty members of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), including Salem West MLA R. Arul, were arrested in Salem on Thursday for staging an unauthorized protest. The demonstration was in response to the arrest of Sowmiya Anbumani, wife of PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss, who had participated in a separate protest in Chennai earlier that day.
The protestors gathered at Salem Fort Maidan and chanted slogans against the police and the state government. Police intervened and arrested the 40 individuals for demonstrating without the necessary permits. Those arrested were temporarily held at a marriage hall before being released later in the evening.
