**New Delhi:** Unconfirmed reports suggest the central government is planning a significant increase to the PM Kisan scheme, potentially doubling the annual benefit to ₹10,000. While social media buzzed with claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the hike on social media, no official statement or tweet from the PMO has corroborated these claims.
The rumour mill gained traction following recent discussions between the central government and farmer groups, where demands for a rise to ₹12,000 were made. The government’s purportedly positive response fueled speculation of a ₹10,000 increase. However, the lack of official confirmation leaves the details uncertain, including how the increased amount would be disbursed over the year (possibly ₹4,000 in one installment and ₹3,000 in each of the remaining two). Further speculation points to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s supposed focus on the scheme’s enhancement, though again, no official sources support this.
A formal announcement regarding a potential increase is anticipated during the presentation of the 2025-26 Union Budget on February 1st. It’s worth noting that similar rumors preceded previous budget announcements, only to be unfulfilled. If implemented, the increased amount would likely come into effect from the 2025-26 financial year. The current financial year (2024-25) will conclude with the 19th installment of ₹2000 in February, following the already disbursed ₹4000.
For farmers in Andhra Pradesh, the impact of a potential increase might be limited. The state government’s own “Annadata Sukhibhava” scheme promises ₹20,000 annually per farmer, but this amount is calculated after deducting the central government’s PM Kisan contribution. The Andhra Pradesh scheme, however, is yet to be fully launched. The situation highlights the need for official clarification from the central government to resolve the uncertainty surrounding the future of the PM Kisan scheme.
