Thu Jan 02 10:37:49 UTC 2025: **Palestinian Authority Suspends Al Jazeera Broadcasting**

RAMALLAH, WEST BANK – The Palestinian Authority (PA) has suspended the broadcasts of Qatar-based Al Jazeera in the Palestinian territories, citing incitement and misinformation. The decision, announced late Wednesday, follows weeks of escalating tensions between the PA and Al Jazeera, particularly concerning the network’s coverage of deadly clashes between Palestinian security forces and armed militants in Jenin.

The PA’s official news agency, Wafa, stated that Al Jazeera’s reporting was characterized by “incitement, sedition, and interference in Palestinian internal affairs.” A specialized ministerial committee ordered the suspension of all Al Jazeera broadcasts and activities in Palestine, including the temporary freezing of all staff work until their legal status is rectified. Al Jazeera’s Ramallah office confirmed receiving the suspension order.

Al Jazeera condemned the decision, alleging it mirrored Israeli occupation practices targeting its media teams and represented an attempt to stifle coverage of events in the occupied territories. The network maintains it presented all sides in its reporting of the Jenin clashes.

The decision has drawn criticism from Hamas and Islamic Jihad, who accuse the PA of curtailing public freedoms. Both groups called for the immediate reversal of the ban, emphasizing the importance of continued media coverage to expose the Israeli occupation.

The suspension adds another layer of complexity to the already volatile situation in the West Bank, where deadly clashes between PA security forces and armed militants have persisted for weeks. Al Jazeera continues to operate in Gaza.
