Thu Jan 02 07:50:48 UTC 2025: ## Sri Lanka’s Perera Blasts Record-Breaking Century in Consolation Win Over New Zealand

**Nelson, New Zealand –** Kusal Perera smashed a breathtaking century, shattering multiple records in the process, to lead Sri Lanka to a thrilling seven-run victory over New Zealand in the third and final T20I on Thursday. The win provided a consolation for Sri Lanka, who had lost the first two matches of the series.

Perera’s unbeaten 101 off just 46 balls included four sixes and 13 fours, making it the fastest T20I century by a Sri Lankan. He also surpassed Kusal Mendis’ record for most 50-plus scores in T20Is by a Sri Lankan, bringing his tally to 16. His innings propelled Sri Lanka to a challenging 218-5.

Despite a spirited chase by New Zealand, fueled by Rachin Ravindra’s 69 and contributions from Tim Robinson (37) and Daryl Mitchell (35), they fell short, finishing on 211-7. Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka also played a crucial role, scoring a quick-fire 46 off 24 balls. Asalanka further impressed with his part-time bowling, taking 3-50.

Perera admitted to a shaky start, being nearly dismissed early, but he credited his coach’s advice to capitalize on a good start for his eventual success. Despite the series loss, Asalanka expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and their ability to finally secure a win.

The two teams will now face off in a three-match ODI series, starting in Wellington on Sunday.
