VIJAYAWADA, January 2, 2025 – The Andhra Pradesh state cabinet has approved the re-tendering of ₹2,733 crore worth of construction projects in the state capital, Amaravati. This decision follows recommendations from international funding agencies including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and German financial institutions.
According to Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy, the cabinet approved two major engineering projects totaling ₹2,723.02 crore. The move marks a shift from the previous government’s three-capital plan, which Mr. Parthasarathy stated neglected Amaravati’s development. The current government, he added, aims to develop Amaravati into a world-class capital city.
Further, the cabinet approved an ordinance to amend the Andhra Pradesh Metropolitan Region and Urban Development Authorities (AP MRUDA) Act, 2016, to facilitate changes in the city’s master plans. Nineteen new positions were also sanctioned for the newly formed Pithapuram Area Development Authority (PADA).
In addition to the Amaravati projects, the cabinet approved a range of other initiatives, including expanding the Tirupati ESI hospital’s capacity to 100 beds, and ₹1,82,162 crore worth of investments approved by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB). Discussions also included the establishment of a BPCL refinery, a green ammonia plant, and new wind and solar power plants. Land allocation for a Home Department IR battalion was also considered.
