Thu Jan 02 16:24:22 UTC 2025: ## Paramekkavu Vela Fireworks Display Approved with Strict Conditions
**Thrissur, Kerala, January 2, 2025** – The Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Thrissur has granted conditional permission for a fireworks display during the Paramekkavu Vela celebrations this Friday. The decision follows a petition to the Kerala High Court by the Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu Devaswoms, who argued that new fireworks regulations made a display impossible.
The ADM’s permission allows for the use of only 100 kg of fireworks at Thekkinkadu Maidan, strictly adhering to Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) guidelines. The display is limited to a two-hour window between 12:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., with spectators required to maintain a 100-meter distance behind barricades. Certain fireworks, including Gundu, Amittu, and Kuzhiminnal, are explicitly prohibited. The Devaswom must also submit an unedited video recording of the display to the ADM’s office.
An earlier denial of permission by the ADM cited safety concerns regarding the venue’s physical conditions. The High Court intervened, instructing the ADM to make a swift decision upon receipt of the required documentation from the Devaswoms, in compliance with recent amendments to the Explosives Act. The Thiruvambady Vela celebrations, scheduled for Sunday, will also feature a fireworks display, with the necessary permissions already secured.
