Tue Dec 31 07:01:34 UTC 2024: ## MLA Uma Thomas’s Condition Improves, Three Arrested After Stage Collapse
Kochi, Kerala – MLA Uma Thomas, critically injured after a stage collapse at the Kalur Stadium, is showing signs of improvement. Her son reported that she has opened her eyes and moved her limbs. While she remains on a ventilator at Renai Medicity hospital in Palarivattom due to serious lung injuries, the medical board will release an update on her condition at 10:00 AM today. A bronchoscopy test is scheduled for 8:30 AM.
A joint investigation report by police, fire force, and public works departments has revealed significant safety lapses at the event. The report cites unsafe stage construction, insufficient support for added sections, and a lack of an ambulance near the VIP stage, delaying emergency medical assistance. Furthermore, the report criticizes the lack of training among those who moved the MLA to the ambulance.
Following the investigation, police have arrested three individuals: Benny (stage constructor from Mulanturutty), Shemeer Abdul Raheem (CEO of Mrudanga Mission), and Krishna Kumar (Oscar Events manager). The arrests are in connection with the stage collapse.
