Mon Dec 30 18:10:53 UTC 2024: ## Railway Official Arrested for Alleged Job Scam in Bengaluru
**Bengaluru, December 30, 2024** – A 49-year-old Chief Ticket Inspector with South Western Railways (SWR), Govindaraju, has been arrested by the Vijayanagar police in west Bengaluru for allegedly cheating aspiring government job candidates. Govindaraju, from Nagarabhavi, is accused of promising successful placement in competitive exams like the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) and Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) exams for significant sums of money, ranging from ₹25 lakh to ₹50 lakh.
Police investigations revealed that Govindaraju, leveraging contacts within the examination process, used middlemen to target candidates. He allegedly instructed them to leave portions of their Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets blank, promising to fill them in later to guarantee high scores. He also collected educational certificates as collateral.
The arrest followed credible information received by the police. Upon detaining Govindaraju, police recovered four mobile phones, one of which contained the names and documents of 46 alleged victims. A past similar case against Govindaraju was reportedly filed in 2018. The police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating and criminal conspiracy. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), S. Girish, clarified that the case is unrelated to any examination paper leaks.
