Mon Dec 30 19:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Jeju Air Plane Crash: Four-Minute Mystery Key to Investigation

**Muan, South Korea** – A devastating plane crash in South Korea on Sunday morning has left investigators scrambling to understand the events leading up to the tragedy. Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, carrying 181 passengers, crashed into a concrete structure short of the runway at Muan International Airport, resulting in the deaths of all but two people on board. The majority of victims were South Koreans returning from a Christmas vacation in Thailand.

The pilot, a veteran with nearly 7,000 flight hours, reported a bird strike at 8:59 a.m. and declared an emergency, stating his intention to perform a go-around – a missed approach to re-attempt landing. However, instead of completing the go-around, the plane approached the runway from the opposite direction, north to south, and crashed just three minutes later at 9:03 a.m.

The four-minute period between the bird strike report and the impact is now the focus of the investigation. Authorities are examining what transpired during that crucial time, aiming to determine whether the bird strike was the sole cause of the crash or if other factors contributed. The crash is the deadliest aviation disaster in South Korea’s history and the world’s deadliest since the 2018 Lion Air Flight 610 crash. The investigation is ongoing.
