Tue Dec 31 06:36:55 UTC 2024: ## Rohit Sharma Calls for Self-Reflection from Rishabh Pant After Melbourne Defeat
**Melbourne, Australia:** Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has urged wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant to reassess his approach after India’s heavy loss to Australia in the fourth Test. While acknowledging Pant’s past successes with his aggressive batting style, Sharma expressed concern over a rash shot in the second innings that triggered a collapse.
Pant’s 30 runs off 104 balls, despite a promising partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, ultimately proved insufficient. Sharma emphasized the need for Pant to better manage risk, stating, “He needs to understand what is required from himself…it’s about him understanding and figuring out what’s the right way to go about it.”
Sharma admitted to a mixed reaction to Pant’s sometimes risky batting, praising its past successes while also acknowledging the frustration it causes when it fails. He highlighted the need for a balance between risk and reward, particularly in crucial game situations.
“Certain situations of the game, if there’s a risk percentage, do you want to take that risk? Do you want to let the opposition come back into the game? Those are the things he needs to figure out himself,” Sharma said.
While confirming past conversations with Pant regarding his batting style, Sharma reiterated that Pant’s aggressive approach has yielded significant success in the past, making it difficult to completely change his game. The captain emphasized the need for self-reflection and a better understanding of risk assessment by the young wicketkeeper-batter.
