**NEW DELHI** – Delhi Police is implementing a comprehensive traffic management plan for New Year’s Eve, deploying 2,500 personnel and 250 teams to combat drunk driving and ensure smooth traffic flow around popular celebration spots like Connaught Place, India Gate, and Hauz Khas. The measures, announced via X (formerly Twitter), will be in effect from 8 pm on December 31st until well after midnight.
Access to Connaught Place will be severely restricted. Vehicles will be barred from entering beyond designated points such as Mandi House and Bengali Market, with only those possessing valid passes permitted entry. Limited parking will be available at Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, and Mandi House on a first-come, first-served basis; unauthorized vehicles will be towed.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that exits from Rajiv Chowk Metro Station will be closed after 9 pm to alleviate overcrowding, though entry will remain open until the last train departs. Commuters are urged to plan their journeys accordingly. Alternative routes are suggested for those travelling to New Delhi Railway Station, and the use of the metro is recommended. Motorists are advised to avoid Bhairon Road/Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan due to expected congestion. The police are urging cooperation from the public to ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year’s celebration.
