**New Delhi, December 31, 2024** – The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website and app suffered another major outage on Tuesday morning, December 31st, disrupting tatkal (instant) ticket bookings for thousands of travellers. This marks the third such incident in December alone, with all three outages occurring around 9:50 AM, just minutes before the tatkal booking window opened.
The outage prevented users from accessing the platform to book tickets. A message on the site indicated that booking and cancellation services would be unavailable for approximately one hour. Users reported difficulties accessing both the website and app, with Downdetector reporting that approximately 47% experienced website access issues and 42% had app problems.
This is the second outage in a week, following a similar incident on December 26th. The repeated failures sparked widespread frustration among users who took to social media to complain about the disruption. Many were unable to secure tatkal tickets during the limited booking window. While the IRCTC message suggested a one-hour downtime, the disruption caused significant inconvenience.
The cause of the outages remains unclear. IRCTC has advised users to contact customer care or email for cancellation or TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) related issues.
