**Mumbai, December 31, 2024** – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a comprehensive road safety initiative involving the increased use of artificial intelligence (AI) and the scrapping of vehicles older than 15 years. The initiative, detailed in a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office, follows a meeting reviewing the next 100-day action plans for transport, ports, and the state airport authority.

The state government has partnered with Google to utilize AI in enhancing transport sector security and sustainability. Over 13,000 outdated government vehicles will be scrapped, and state transport corporation buses exceeding 15 years old will be either replaced or retrofitted with LNG or CNG kits.

Mr. Fadnavis emphasized the importance of implementing a vehicle scrapping policy for both private and public vehicles, announcing plans for a new electric vehicle (EV) policy within the next three years. Further improvements to urban mobility will include the introduction of bike taxi and maxi cab services. The Chief Minister also directed the transport department to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve bus safety, particularly in accident-prone areas.
