Mon Dec 30 19:00:13 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad Implements Strict Traffic Restrictions for New Year’s Eve

**Hyderabad, December 31, 2024** – To ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow during New Year’s Eve celebrations, Hyderabad’s three traffic police commissionerates (Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda) have announced comprehensive restrictions and advisories. These measures, effective from the night of December 31st, will regulate vehicular movement and crack down on violations.

Most city flyovers will be closed from December 31st to January 1st, with exceptions for the PVNR Expressway (airport-bound passengers only with valid tickets), Begumpet, and Tolichowki flyovers. Increased police presence will be deployed at 172 key junctions, with a particular focus on popular areas like Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, and Jubilee Hills. Restrictions and diversions will be implemented in these areas from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Cyberabad will close the Nehru Outer Ring Road and PVNR Expressway to light motor vehicles (except airport-bound passengers) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Rachakonda will similarly close key flyovers and underpasses during the same period.

Strict enforcement of drunk driving laws will be in place from 8 p.m., with penalties ranging from ₹10,000 fines and six months imprisonment for first-time offenders to ₹15,000 and two years for repeat offenders. License suspension or revocation, and even culpable homicide charges in fatal accidents, are possible. Public transport drivers are reminded of uniform and documentation requirements. Establishments serving alcohol are responsible for preventing intoxicated patrons from driving. Other violations like speeding, using high-decibel sound systems, and driving unregistered vehicles will also face penalties.

The police urge citizens to cooperate with these restrictions and use designated parking areas. The advisories aim to minimize disruptions and ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year’s celebration for all.
