**KOCHI, Kerala – December 31, 2024** – To curb drunk driving on New Year’s Eve, the Ernakulam Regional Transport Officer (RTO) has issued a directive to all hotels with bar facilities. The order, issued on December 30th, mandates that hotels provide and clearly advertise designated driver services to their patrons. Hotels are further instructed to immediately report any customer refusing the service and attempting to drive under the influence to the nearest police station or RTO enforcement authority. Failure to comply will result in legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and other relevant laws.
