Mon Dec 30 17:44:59 UTC 2024: ## Bengaluru Court Sentences Bangladesh National to Seven Years for JMB Links

**Bengaluru, India (December 30, 2024)** – A Bangladesh national, Jahidul Islam, has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹57,000 by a National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court in Bengaluru. Islam, identified as the JMB Amir of India (Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh India), was convicted on multiple charges including dacoity, conspiracy, raising funds for terrorist activities, and procurement of ammunition.

The case, initially registered by Bengaluru City police in June 2019 based on NIA information related to the 2014 Burdwan blast, involved a series of offenses linked to JMB-India’s activities. According to the NIA, Islam, along with absconding JMB head Salauddin Salehin, illegally entered India in 2014 after escaping custody in Bangladesh. Following the Burdwan blast, the pair allegedly fled to Bengaluru, where Islam radicalized and recruited young Muslims from West Bengal and Assam. The NIA also linked Islam and his associates to the January 2018 Bodhgaya blast and four dacoities in Bengaluru in 2018, using the proceeds to fund JMB operations.

Eleven individuals have been convicted in connection with these cases. The NIA’s investigation highlights the group’s activities in raising funds through criminal acts to support their terrorist agenda.
