**Patna, Bihar:** A wave of grief swept through Patna today as thousands gathered to pay their last respects to Acharya Kishore Kunal, a prominent religious figure and philanthropist, who passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 74 due to a heart attack.
Kunal’s funeral procession, which began at 9 AM from his residence in Kurji, snaked its way through the city, passing by the Mahavir Mandir where he regularly performed pujas. His body was kept at the temple from 10 AM to 11 AM for final darshan (viewing), drawing large crowds. The procession concluded at Konhara Ghat, a site holding special significance for Kunal, where his last rites were performed.
Konhara Ghat holds a special place in Kunal’s heart as he had established a low-cost hospital there about 15 years ago, showcasing his dedication to community service. He also constructed a Shiva temple near the hospital.
Throughout the day, mourners recounted tales of Kunal’s simplicity and achievements. His residence was filled with visitors, including family members and prominent figures from politics, academia, and social service, even staying overnight to pay their respects. Patna University students and staff from hospitals run by the Mahavir Mandir Trust also participated in the procession.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav were among the many dignitaries who expressed their condolences. Kunal’s son, Saiyan Kunal, confirmed the route of the procession.
Acharya Kishore Kunal’s legacy extends beyond his religious contributions, leaving behind a lasting mark of community service and compassion in the hearts of many.
