Mon Dec 30 14:46:06 UTC 2024: ## MLA Injured in Kochi Stadium Incident, Event Manager Arrested
**Kochi, Kerala:** Following the injury of MLA Uma Thomas who fell from a gallery at the Kallur stadium during a dance performance, the event organizers, Mridanga Vision, have approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The High Court will consider the plea tomorrow.
The incident occurred during the “Mridangam Nadam” program. A contract between the organizers and the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) reveals that the organizers did not obtain permission for additional construction, including the stage, despite GCDA guidelines requiring permits from the Kochi Corporation and fire department. The GCDA contract explicitly permitted only stadium use.
Police have arrested the event manager, Krishna Kumar of Oscar Event Management, for questioning in relation to the safety lapse. Mridanga Vision claims in its bail petition that all safety standards were met and there was no overcrowding or other difficulties. However, the police investigation into the incident continues, focusing on alleged safety violations. MLA Thomas’s injuries are reportedly serious.
