**Kochi, Kerala:** MLA Uma Thomas, who sustained serious injuries after falling from a gallery at the Kalur Stadium, remains on a ventilator but shows signs of improvement, according to a medical bulletin released by Renai Medicity. While still not out of danger, doctors report a significant change from her earlier condition.
A CT scan this morning revealed that her head injuries are not as severe as initially feared. While there’s been no increase in internal bleeding, the bruising in her lungs has worsened slightly. Scans of her abdomen showed no further complications. Although her vital signs are stable, the severe lung contusions necessitate continued ventilation for several days. Treatment is now focused on addressing the lung damage, including antibiotic therapy.
Further scans revealed an undisplaced cervical spine fracture, but doctors say immediate intervention isn’t necessary. Treatment for this will be addressed later, if needed. Doctors also clarified that she is not yet out of danger. Pre-existing heart conditions, including a previously implanted stent, and medication for the same, contributed to some bleeding yesterday, they added. The focus now is on her lung health.
Police have registered a case against the event organizers for negligence, citing violations of safety standards during the event that led to Ms. Thomas’ fall. The Palarivattom police allege that the temporary stage lacked sufficient safety measures, including a proper walkway in front of the stage.
The condition of other internal organs will influence the healing of her head injuries. Doctors emphasize that the improvement is gradual and a long road to recovery lies ahead.
