Mon Dec 30 09:55:43 UTC 2024: ## Taliban Bans Women From All NGOs in Afghanistan

**Kabul, Afghanistan –** The Taliban regime has issued a sweeping ban on all national and foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) employing women in Afghanistan. This follows a similar, albeit less comprehensive, order two years ago, citing alleged violations of Islamic headscarf regulations.

In a letter published on X (formerly Twitter) on December 29th, the Afghan Economy Ministry threatened to revoke the operating licenses of any NGOs failing to comply with the new directive. The ministry asserted its authority over all NGO activities within the country.

This latest action represents a significant escalation of the Taliban’s efforts to restrict women’s participation in Afghan society. The ban directly contradicts the crucial role women play in humanitarian aid delivery, a concern echoed by the UN Security Council earlier this month. UN officials reported a rise in incidents where female aid workers were prevented from working by Taliban morality police.

Despite the UN’s concerns and reports of interference, the Taliban continues to deny obstructing aid efforts. The ban adds to a long list of restrictions imposed on women, including limitations on employment, public appearances, and education beyond the sixth grade. International condemnation of the ban is expected.
