Mon Dec 30 10:42:50 UTC 2024: ## Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Launches “Pudumai Penn” Scheme, Empowering Girl Students
**THOOTHUKUDI, TAMIL NADU (December 30, 2024)** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday launched a new initiative aimed at empowering girl students, distributing funds under the “Pudumai Penn” scheme. The scheme, which was not part of the DMK’s 2021 election manifesto, provides ₹1,000 per month to girls enrolled in classes 6 to 12 in government-aided schools, enabling them to pursue higher education.
Speaking at a function in Thoothukudi, Mr. Stalin emphasized the state’s commitment to girls’ education, highlighting Tamil Nadu’s leading role in providing educational opportunities for women and its progress as a Dravidian model. He contrasted this with what he described as obstacles created by Hindu nationalists, reiterating the DMK’s dedication to women’s empowerment.
The Chief Minister traced the history of education reform in Tamil Nadu, crediting previous Dravidian leaders for expanding access to education. He also pointed to the state government’s provision of free bus travel for working women, benefiting over 567 crore women in recent years. Despite challenges from the opposition AIADMK and the BJP-led central government, Mr. Stalin affirmed the DMK’s continued commitment to such programs.
The Chief Minister argued that the “Pudumai Penn” scheme, while costly, is a necessary investment in the future, comparing it to a parent’s commitment to their child’s education. He urged the beneficiaries to utilize their education to contribute positively to society, encouraging them to pursue further studies and achieve global success. The event was attended by several ministers, officials, and the Chief Secretary.
