**Gangtok, December 30, 2024** – Six tourists from Assam were rescued Monday after becoming stranded in North Sikkim due to heavy snowfall and hazardous road conditions. The group, travelling by motorcycle, were trapped near Yakshe, approximately 10 km from Lachung in Mangan district, on Sunday night.

According to police, black ice rendered the roads impassable. A joint rescue operation involving police and local residents successfully brought the tourists to safety. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) subsequently cleared the road to Yumthang Valley by Monday morning.

Authorities, however, warned travelers to remain vigilant, as black ice continues to pose a significant risk. They urged tourists to check road conditions and take appropriate safety precautions before embarking on journeys in the region.
