**Imphal, Manipur –** Security forces in Manipur have launched a major offensive against armed gunmen, resulting in the destruction of four bunkers and the occupation of three others. The operation, conducted over the past two days in Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts, followed gunfights that erupted after attacks on villages by hill-based gunmen. The clashes, which occurred near Thamnapokpi and Sanasabi villages, left four people injured last Friday, including a police officer and a woman.
A joint operation involving the army, Border Security Force (BSF), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) successfully cleared the area of armed miscreants, according to a police statement released Monday. The statement emphasized that all those involved in the recent firing incidents have been driven out. In addition to destroying bunkers, security forces secured commanding positions in Uyok Ching, Kangpokpi district.
These actions follow months of ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups, which began in May 2024 and has resulted in over 250 deaths and thousands displaced.
