Mon Dec 30 16:26:54 UTC 2024: **Andhra Pradesh Police Arrest Four in Connection with Missing PDS Rice**

VIJAYAWADA, Andhra Pradesh – Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of 378 metric tonnes of rice intended for the Public Distribution System (PDS) from a private godown in Machilipatnam. The arrests follow a joint raid by the Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Corporation and Krishna district police on JS Warehouse.

Those arrested include the Krishna district Civil Supplies Assistant Manager (Technical), the godown manager, a mill owner, and a broker. A police investigation officer confirmed the arrests.

The godown’s management has received a notice from Joint Collector Geetanjali Sharma demanding ₹1.70 crore to cover the missing rice and associated penalties. Meanwhile, the godown owner, Perni Jaya Sudha (wife of former Minister Perni Venkataramaiah), was granted anticipatory bail but ordered to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. The case is currently under investigation.
