Mon Dec 30 17:15:38 UTC 2024: ## BJP Demands Minister’s Resignation, CBI Inquiry into Contractor’s Suicide
**Bengaluru, Karnataka –** The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is demanding the resignation of Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge and a CBI investigation into the suicide of a civil contractor in Bidar district. The contractor’s suicide note implicated Kharge’s close aide, Raju Kapanur, alleging death threats and extortion.
BJP state president B Y Vijayendra accused the Kalaburagi police of being under the influence of the Kharge family, claiming an impartial investigation is impossible. He threatened to besiege Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence if the state government doesn’t meet their demands by January 3rd. These demands include Kharge’s resignation and a CBI takeover of the investigation.
The suicide note further alleged a conspiracy involving several BJP leaders and a pontiff, with alleged contract killers from Maharashtra. Vijayendra also urged the government to protect the contractor’s family and provide compensation and employment.
Minister Priyank Kharge denied any involvement, stating his name wasn’t mentioned in the suicide note, and called for his own inquiry into the matter. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar rejected the resignation calls, defending Kharge’s integrity and highlighting the ongoing CID investigation, citing concerns about the CBI’s impartiality. The state government has indeed transferred the case to the CID. Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed this action, stating it was taken in response to the BJP’s allegations.
