**Mumbai, India** – Mumbai police are implementing a massive security operation for New Year’s Eve, deploying over 15,000 personnel across the city. The deployment includes eight additional commissioners of police, numerous deputy and assistant commissioners, and thousands of officers and constables. Specialized units such as the State Reserve Police Force, Quick Response Teams, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads, Riot Control Police, and Home Guards will also be on duty.
The extensive security measures aim to address a range of potential issues, including crimes against women, general law and order concerns, and traffic violations, particularly drunk driving. Roadblocks will be set up at strategic locations, and increased patrolling will focus on high-traffic areas and popular event venues. A special campaign targeting traffic violations, with a strong emphasis on drunk driving, will also be undertaken. Police will conduct increased checks at various establishments to prevent criminal activities such as public disturbances, harassment, and illegal substance sales. Strict legal action will be taken against offenders.
The comprehensive security plan was developed under the guidance of top Mumbai police officials. The city anticipates large crowds for the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
