**NAGAPATTINAM, December 30, 2024** – A fishing trip turned tragic off the coast of Puthu Kallar village today when a fibre boat carrying three fishermen capsized due to strong waves. While two fishermen were rescued, one remains missing.
Rathinavel (42), the boat owner, Sithanandam (52), and Rathinasamy (43), all residents of Puthu Kallar, were returning from a fishing expedition when their boat was overturned approximately a nautical mile from shore. Rathinasamy managed to swim to safety, and Rathinavel was rescued by the Indian Navy after being spotted struggling in the water. However, Sithanandam is currently missing.
The Nagapattinam Coastal Security Group has launched a search and rescue operation, deploying additional boats to locate the missing fisherman. The search is ongoing based on information provided by fellow fishermen.
