**Puducherry, December 30, 2024** – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) staged a protest outside the Puducherry District Collectorate on Monday, demanding expedited relief for residents affected by Cyclone Fengal. The party criticized the government’s insufficient ₹5,000 cash assistance, urging the immediate disbursement of promised compensation for farmers and property damage. They also called on the central government to release over ₹600 crore in requested aid. Additionally, the CPI(M) demanded a permanent solution to persistent waterlogging in low-lying areas like Krishna Nagar. Party secretary S. Ramachandran led the protest and submitted a memorandum outlining these demands.
In a separate statement, Ramachandran condemned the AINRC-BJP government’s recent ₹2 fuel price increase, following a bus fare hike. He warned that this would significantly impact the cost of essential goods.
