**Kochi, Kerala –** Congress MLA Uma Thomas remains in critical condition after a fall from a 15-foot-high dais at a mega dance event in Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday evening. She is currently on ventilator support, and doctors are closely monitoring her condition following a Grade 2 Diffuse Axonal Injury (a moderate traumatic brain injury), nasal bone fractures, and skull fractures. A CT scan conducted Monday morning will assess the extent of internal bleeding. While emergency surgery has been ruled out, doctors have drained accumulated blood. A team of specialists from Kottayam Medical College has joined her medical team. An update on her condition is expected later today.
The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. before the event’s inauguration, which was attended by Kerala Culture Minister Saji Cherian. Witnesses report that Ms. Thomas lost her balance while greeting someone from the dais, falling through a gap in the barricade.
Police have filed a case against the event organizers, Oscar Events and Mrudangavision, under various sections of the law, including charges of rash and negligent acts endangering human life and causing grievous violation of public order. The investigation is ongoing.
