**Villupuram, Tamil Nadu –** C.Ve. Shanmugam, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament for the AIADMK, was arrested on Monday along with 604 party workers during a protest against the Tamil Nadu government’s handling of a sexual assault case at Anna University. The protest, which took place near the Municipal grounds on Tiruchi Road, was unauthorized by police.

Mr. Shanmugam stated that crimes against women, particularly sexual assaults, have increased significantly in the state over the past three and a half years. He demanded swift justice for the victim and the prosecution of all involved, criticizing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s perceived silence on the issue. Police arrested the protestors for defying orders and staging an unauthorized demonstration.
