**Mangalore, Karnataka – December 30, 2024** – A special drive in Karnataka has resulted in the issuance of ration cards to 276 members of the Koraga tribe, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). The initiative, part of a state-wide program aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of PVTGs, saw 262 Koragas in Dakshina Kannada and 14 in Udupi receive cards.

The distribution follows a survey identifying 361 Koraga community members in need. According to Dakshina Kannada Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies B.S. Hemalata, 99 applications remain pending due to technical issues with caste and income certificates. The state and central governments fund the program, providing financial assistance for initiatives addressing the critical needs of these communities. Other PVTGs in Karnataka, such as the Jenu Kurubas, are also benefiting from this initiative, which ran from December 20th to 27th.
