**Ranchi, [Date]** – Eleven Jharkhand migrant workers, stranded in Cameroon after allegedly being exploited by a Mumbai-based firm, have been repatriated to the state, the Jharkhand government announced Sunday. The remaining 36 workers are expected to return soon.
The state government acted swiftly after receiving complaints that the 47 workers had not been paid for three months. FIRs were filed earlier this month against the unnamed Mumbai firm and several middlemen for alleged wage theft and violating the Inter-State Migrant Workers Act of 1979 by failing to register the workers and obtain necessary licenses before sending them to Cameroon.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren personally intervened, ordering the Labour Department to facilitate the workers’ return. A control room was set up to coordinate with officials, the company, and the workers themselves. The government successfully secured the payment of the outstanding wages, totaling ₹39.77 lakh (approximately $480,000 USD), to the affected workers. The 11 repatriated workers have been sent home, and efforts are underway to bring the remaining 36 back to India safely. The Ministry of External Affairs has been informed of the situation. The government is also investigating the contract and wage details of the workers and gathering other relevant documents.
