**Tehran, Iran – January 1, 2024** – The Iranian official exchange rate market opened today showing a slight decrease in the prices of major foreign currencies, including the US dollar, Euro, UAE Dirham, and Iraqi Dinar. This marks a departure from the recent upward trend.
According to the Iran Gold and Currency Exchange Center, the price of the US dollar fell slightly to 66,335 tomans (cash) and 64,529 tomans (transfer). Similarly, the Euro decreased to 69,154 tomans (cash) and 67,270 tomans (transfer). The UAE Dirham is trading at 18,062 tomans (cash) and 17,570 tomans (transfer), while 100 Iraqi Dinars are priced at 5,062 tomans.
While the government recently implemented changes to the price discovery mechanism aiming to align official rates with market rates, a significant gap remains. Today’s minor decreases represent the first downward movement in recent days, though the overall trend remains to be seen.
