Fri Dec 27 18:26:32 UTC 2024: ## Zimbabwe Smash Record in Historic Test Win Against Afghanistan

**Harare, Zimbabwe** – Zimbabwe has set a new national record in the first Test match against Afghanistan, smashing their previous highest score by a significant margin. Riding on three centuries, the hosts amassed a colossal 586 runs, surpassing their previous best of 563/9 declared against the West Indies in 2001.

Sean Williams led the charge with a magnificent 154 runs. Captain Craig Ervine contributed a crucial 104, while Brian Bennett anchored the innings with an unbeaten 110. Opener Ben Curran also played a valuable hand, scoring 68.

Bennett’s century is particularly noteworthy. At 21 years and 46 days old, he became the third-youngest Zimbabwean to score a Test century. This is a remarkable turnaround for the young batsman, who only managed 18 runs in his debut Test earlier this year against Ireland. Williams’ century also marked a significant milestone, making him the second-oldest Zimbabwean to reach the century mark in Test cricket after Dave Houghton.

This dominant performance marks the sixth time Zimbabwe has crossed the 500-run mark in Test cricket. The impressive display puts Zimbabwe in a commanding position in the two-match series against Afghanistan.
