Fri Dec 27 19:15:22 UTC 2024: ## Rohit Sharma’s Career on the Line, Says Mark Waugh
**Melbourne, Australia:** Former Australian captain Mark Waugh has issued a stark warning to Indian captain Rohit Sharma, claiming his Test career could be over if he fails to score runs in the remaining matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Sharma has struggled immensely throughout the series. After missing the series opener due to injury, he has failed to find form, scoring only three runs in the first innings of the fourth Test in Melbourne. His poor performance follows a string of low scores; he has managed just 155 runs at an average of 11.07 in his last 14 innings across eight Test matches. In the series so far, he’s scored only 22 runs at a dismal average of 5.50 across four innings.
Waugh, speaking on Fox Sports, stated, “If Rohit Sharma doesn’t produce anything in the last three innings, I think his career could be definitely over.”
The criticism extends beyond Waugh. Former Australian cricketer Kerry O’Keefe also criticized Sharma’s shot selection in Melbourne, describing his early dismissal as a “terrible shot” and a “swivel-pull” played too early in his innings. O’Keefe suggested Sharma was not yet accustomed to the pace and bounce of the Australian wickets.
Sharma’s future in Test cricket now hangs precariously in the balance, with mounting pressure and expert opinion suggesting his performance in the remaining matches will be crucial for his career’s survival.
