**Chennai, December 27, 2024** – Political leaders across Tamil Nadu expressed their grief and paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh following his death. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin led the tributes, offering floral homage in New Delhi and highlighting Singh’s contributions to Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure, particularly the Chennai Metro Rail Project and the Nemmeli desalination plant. Stalin also noted Singh’s role, alongside Sonia Gandhi, in securing classical language status for Tamil.

Several other prominent figures offered their condolences. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami lauded Singh’s economic policies, particularly the introduction of LPG (Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation), while O. Panneerselvam described him as a “great humanist and patriot.” The AIADMK postponed a planned protest as a mark of respect. AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran praised Singh’s role in the country’s economic recovery in the 1990s. TNCC chief K. Selvaperunthagai emphasized Singh’s contributions to IT, highways, and ports development, attracting foreign investment and job creation. MDMK general secretary Vaiko and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay also expressed their sorrow and respect for the late Prime Minister.
