Fri Dec 27 11:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Sensational Debutant Steals the Show as South Africa Edges Pakistan in Centurion Test

**Centurion, South Africa:** Day two of the second Test between South Africa and Pakistan at Centurion saw a dramatic shift in momentum, largely thanks to the stunning debut performance of Corbin Bosch. What began as a languid session of play, characterized by a lack of intensity from both sides, exploded into life thanks to an exceptional lower-order batting display and some questionable captaincy from Pakistan.

South Africa, resuming their innings, initially mirrored Pakistan’s lack of urgency. Key wickets of Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram – the latter falling just 11 runs short of a century – threatened to derail their progress. Markram’s dismissal, in particular, drew criticism, despite his impressive 499 Test runs in 2024.

However, Bosch, playing only his second first-class match, completely changed the narrative. After a shaky start, including a controversial not-out decision overturned on review, he unleashed a blistering display of attacking batting, smashing boundaries at will. He blazed his way to a record-breaking 81, becoming the fastest number nine debutant to a fifty in Test cricket history, scoring 71 of those runs in boundaries. His unbeaten innings, in partnership with Kagiso Rabada and Dane Paterson, added a crucial 110 runs to South Africa’s total.

Pakistan’s captain, Shan Masood, faced criticism for his overuse of Naseem Shah, who seemed visibly tired towards the end of his spell. The lack of variation in Pakistan’s bowling attack was further highlighted by the solitary over of spin bowled by Saim Ayub.

South Africa eventually declared at 324/8, leaving them with a 90-run lead. Bosch’s heroics, however, weren’t limited to the bat. He shared the new ball with Rabada, helping reduce Pakistan to 88/3 before bad light stopped play. Pakistan captain Babar Azam will need to shoulder the responsibility of guiding his team out of trouble on day three. The match remains finely poised, with a fascinating final two days of play expected.
