Season two, which premiered this Thursday, features a larger cast and even more elaborate backstories. Hwang explained the shift in focus to younger characters struggling with debt, stating, “The world has changed. Looking ahead, Hwang plans to transition to feature filmmaking. His next project, a feature film set 10-20 years in the future, promises to be even darker and crueler than *Squid Game*, albeit with quirky and humorous elements. He describes it as “quite cruel, quite sad, but at the same time quite quirky and humorous.”
