**New Delhi, December 27, 2024** – Former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at the age of 92, plunging the nation into mourning. Tributes poured in from across India and the globe, celebrating his legacy as a visionary economist and statesman.

Dr. Singh, who served two terms as Prime Minister (2004-2014), is widely credited with spearheading India’s economic liberalization in the 1990s as Finance Minister and continuing to guide the nation’s economic growth during his premiership. His 1991 budget, described by Gita Gopinath, First Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, as “unshackling” the Indian economy, is lauded for significantly improving the prospects of millions. His tenure also saw the implementation of landmark social programs like NREGA and the Food Security Act.

Beyond economics, Dr. Singh was praised for his humility, integrity, and consensus-building abilities, even navigating complex political landscapes with skill. His role in securing the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal was highlighted as a key achievement.
