**HOUSTON, TX —** A FOX 26 Storm Alert Day is in effect for the Houston area today, Thursday, as severe weather is expected to impact the region from late morning through the evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a slight risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather, including the potential for damaging winds, large hail, over an inch of rain, and isolated tornadoes.

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 7 p.m. for 21 counties in the region, including Harris County. Possible tornadoes could reach EF-2 strength and remain on the ground for an extended period. Thunderstorms are expected to develop late this morning, intensifying into the afternoon. Improvement is anticipated west of Houston around 4 p.m., with most storms exiting the area by 6:30 p.m. However, the exact timing remains subject to change.
