**Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu –** K. Annamalai, president of the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), engaged in self-flagellation today as a dramatic protest demanding justice for a 19-year-old woman allegedly sexually assaulted on the Anna University campus. The protest follows a series of demonstrations by BJP and AIADMK leaders, who were detained by police on December 26th.

Annamalai’s act of self-whipping comes after he announced a 48-day fast and a vow to go without footwear until the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government is removed from power. He alleges a rise in crimes against women under the DMK’s rule and accuses the government of attempting to silence dissent.

The alleged assault occurred on Monday night, with Annamalai claiming two unidentified individuals infiltrated the campus, assaulted a male student, and sexually assaulted the female student. He, along with Tamilisai Soundararajan (BJP) and Vijay (TVK party chief), has called for swift police action and condemned the incident as deeply shocking and unacceptable.
