**Los Angeles, CA** – Netflix announced today that the highly anticipated second season of the global phenomenon *Squid Game* will premiere on December 26th. The streaming giant revealed the premiere date in a teaser trailer, promising a darker and more intense continuation of the deadly competition.
Picking up three years after the events of Season 1, the new season will see the return of protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), a changed man determined to bring an end to the sinister games. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk described Gi-hun as “a much heavier, darker” character in this installment.
Familiar faces will also return, including the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-jun), and the Recruiter (Gong Yoo). The cast will also welcome several new additions, such as Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, and Park Gyu-young.
Season 1 of *Squid Game* shattered Netflix records upon its release in September 2021, becoming the streamer’s biggest series launch ever with 111 million viewers in its first month and ultimately accumulating 330 million viewers and 2.8 billion hours watched. The immense success built enormous anticipation for the second season, which will be available to stream worldwide on Netflix at 3 a.m. ET/12 p.m. PT on December 26th.
