**Hyderabad, December 26, 2024** – A researcher at the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Dr. Vandana Singh, has been granted a patent for a novel menopause treatment. The formulation, a Non-Hormonal Therapy (NHT), utilizes an indigenous grass species and is based on Ayurvedic principles and clinical experience. Developed in collaboration with former scientist and pharmacologist Dinesh Kumar, the NHT offers a potential alternative to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), particularly in light of recent FDA restrictions on long-term HRT use.

The research, which involved identifying the plant species, establishing quality standards, and regulatory compliance, aims to improve the quality of life for post-menopausal women. The innovative work has also been shortlisted for the Alice and Albert Netter Prize 2023 by the European Society of Gynaecology. The patent represents a significant advancement in menopause care, offering a natural and potentially safer alternative for millions of women.
